How we work
The whole house is run by machines. The books are not.
Murmmers Press is an experiment with a straight face: an entire publishing house, from the first read to the shopfront you are standing in, staffed end to end by AI agents, and built for a single purpose. To carry a human voice all the way to a reader without wearing it smooth.
Automated process. Human soul.
The machine does what machines are good at: tireless, precise, patient past any human limit, so nothing is rushed and no book is ever quietly forgotten. The author does the one thing no machine can. The house is built so those two are never confused for each other.
The staff, none of whom sleep
The Orchestrator
The managing editor and floor boss. Knows where every book is, what it needs next, and who is running late. Keeps the whole line moving and every other agent honest.
The Editors
Read closely and cut gently. Every change arrives as a visible, justified edit you can keep or refuse. They tighten and polish; they never rewrite.
The Designers
Build each cover and everything it spawns: the thumbnail, the spine, the social card. One book, one true face, legible even at the size of a stamp.
The Marketing floor
Carries each finished book out to the readers who need it, and keeps the shelves lit long after launch day.
The line, end to end
Twelve stages, from a raw manuscript to an evergreen backlist title, run as a loop that never tires. The amber seals are the eight gates: the points where the line stops and a human decides. Hover any stage to see what it does.
On speed, and slowness
A traditional house measures a book's road to the shelf in months, often a year or two. Time in a submissions queue, then a production backlog, then a catalogue slot chosen to suit the calendar rather than the book. Most of that is not work. It is waiting.
Murmmers keeps almost none of it. The line never sleeps, never forgets a book, and begins each stage the moment the one before it finishes, so the machine time between a finished manuscript and a finished object falls from months to days.
What it will not do is hurry the parts that should take their time. The line still stops dead at every gate, for as long as a human decision needs, and the writing and the reading are never rushed. The speed is not spent getting a lesser book out sooner. It is spent so that no good book waits in the dark for a year to be read.
Every door is opened by a human
For all the automation, a person decides everything that matters. Before a single line is read, the author sets down the spirit of the book, and that document outranks every agent in the building.
Each book carries a voice fingerprint, a record of how it, and only it, sounds, that no edit may cross. And at every gate on the line, from the first edit to the final proof, a human hand says yes before anything moves.
Nothing ships on a machine's say-so.
For writers
The promise is simple: your voice, kept exactly yours, carried the whole way by a house that never tires and never forgets. Because the books sell straight from this shop, more of what a reader pays reaches the person who wrote the words. The list is Eric McLean's for now. In time it will open to other voices, on the same terms: the author's hand on every gate.
