The launch day that arrived, and passed, in silence. You are a writer. Somewhere along the way someone handed you a second job you never trained for, and never wanted.

The writing was the part you were built for. No one warned you about the rest.

Getting a finished book onto the shelves is not one task. It is fifty small, unforgiving, technical ones, and every single one of them can bounce your book back to the start. None of them are writing. All of them stand between your book and a reader.

Wrong colour space, no bleed, a spine built for the wrong page count. Each rejection is another week, and the rejection notice never quite tells you why.

The maths no one taught you

Spine width from page count and paper stock, and it is a different number on every shop, because every printer uses different paper. Get it wrong by a hair and the whole cover is wrong.

The ISBN traps

Tick one hopeful box for wider reach and Amazon claims your ISBN, and now the shop that actually reaches bookshops and libraries turns you away. Nobody mentioned that on the way in.

The silence after launch

The book is finally up. And nothing happens. No readers, no plan to find them, and no hours left in the week to learn how. The hardest part turns out to be the part that starts once you are done.

Murmmers Press is run by authors, for authors. Every wall above, we hit first, with our own books, and it is the reason this house exists. We turned each of those fights into something a machine now does perfectly, every time, so that you never have to.

The whole house is built around a single rule that outranks every machine in it. Your voice is kept exactly yours. Before a word is read, you set down the spirit of the book and what it must never lose, and that document overrules every agent in the building. No edit may cross it. That is the point of the entire place: to carry a human voice all the way to a reader without ever wearing it smooth.

We are opening the doors

For its first years the list was one author's. It is opening now, to a first few voices, on the same terms we hold ourselves to: your hand on every gate, your voice kept whole, and more of what a reader pays reaching the person who wrote the words. We take on a small number of books at a time, and we begin every one with a conversation, not a contract.
